Ingredients
  

  • 1 loaf of brioche or challah bread cubed
  • 6 large eggs
  • 2 cups whole milk
  • 1/2 cup heavy cream
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • Butter for greasing

Method
 

  1. Grease a 9x13-inch baking dish with butter.
  2. Place the cubed bread evenly in the dish.
  3. In a large bowl, whisk together eggs, milk, cream, sugar, vanilla, cinnamon, and salt.
  4. Pour the custard mixture over the bread cubes, pressing down gently to soak the bread.
  5. Cover and refrigerate overnight or at least 6 hours.
  6. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C).
  7. Bake uncovered for 45 minutes, or until custard is set and top is golden brown.
  8. Let cool slightly before serving.

Notes

Use day-old bread for best texture. Add fresh berries or nuts for extra flavor and texture. Serve with maple syrup or powdered sugar for sweetness.
