Method
- In a small bowl, combine warm milk and sugar. Stir in yeast and let sit for 5–10 minutes until foamy.
- In a large bowl or mixer, combine flour and salt. Add the yeast mixture, egg, and softened butter. Mix until a dough forms.
- Knead the dough for 8–10 minutes until smooth and elastic. Place in a greased bowl, cover, and let rise for 1–1.5 hours or until doubled.
- Punch down dough and divide into 12–15 equal pieces. Shape into balls and place in a greased 9x13 baking pan.
- Cover and let rise again for 30–45 minutes.
- Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Bake for 15–18 minutes until golden brown.
- Brush warm rolls with melted butter and serve.
Notes
For a richer flavor, use whole milk.
You can make the dough ahead of time and refrigerate overnight after the first rise.
These rolls freeze well—just thaw and reheat before serving.
Try adding a touch of honey to the butter for a sweet finish.
